Hauck: Senate budget gets priorities wrong

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Roger Hauck, R-Mount Pleasant, issued the following statement Friday after the Michigan Senate approved a fiscal year 2027 budget plan along with a supplemental budget for the current fiscal year:

“Budgets are a statement of priorities, and this plan gets those priorities wrong.

“House Republicans have shown that Michigan has the resources to deliver real, lasting relief for families, strengthen core services, and prepare our kids for the future. Instead, this budget drains state savings and ramps up spending to levels that simply can’t be sustained.

“We’ve seen this kind of short-term thinking before. Similar budget gimmicks in the past left Michigan families paying the price for years, leading to a lost decade of government living beyond its means.

“Families in my district work hard, budget carefully and expect their state government to do the same. They shouldn’t be asked to shoulder the burden of irresponsible spending or uncertainty about the future.

“Michigan needs a budget that helps families afford everyday life, such as groceries, housing and childcare, not one that gambles away their long‑term security.”
